Charles Darwin: The Father of Evolution

Early Life and Career

Charles Robert Darwin was born on February 12, 1809, in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. He initially studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh but later switched to natural history. In 1831, Darwin embarked on a groundbreaking voyage aboard the HMS Beagle, which took him to South America, the Galapagos Islands, and other remote locations.

The Theory of Evolution

Darwin's observations during his voyage played a pivotal role in the development of his theory of evolution by natural selection. He noticed that species living in different environments exhibited unique physical characteristics. Darwin proposed that these variations were a result of a natural selection process, where individuals with traits that best suited their environment were more likely to survive and pass on their genes.

Darwin's work fundamentally changed the understanding of evolution on Earth. He redefined evolution as "descent with modification," emphasizing that species gradually change over time, passing on favorable traits to their offspring.
